Our Background
The Marjoribanks Gallery takes its name from a local family who originally moved to nearby Lees in 1754. The family are still very much involved with the Gallery and the resident potter is John Marjoribanks Egerton.
The Building
The gallery is housed in the old Hogg & Wood Ltd seed merchants warehouse built in 1801. Over two years the original building was extensively renovated - having stripped the structure back to its shell, the original early nineteenth century warehouse was opened up again to create a fantastic open space in which to appreciate art with modern spot lighting and hanging systems.
The front gallery has a regularly changing collection of art and the back gallery is dedicated to exhibitions and regular private views by individual artists. Visitors have access to an ambulatory disabled loo and baby changing facilities.
